The campus was originally established in the late 1880s as a school for deaf children, serving generations of students from throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania. Founded through the efforts of Rev. Jacob M. Koehler and supported by local philanthropist Henry Belin Jr. and the Belin family, the school became an important educational institution and a recognizable landmark between Dunmore and Scranton.
Over time, the campus evolved and later served as a state school, leaving a lasting place in the history of the community.

Today, the property is being thoughtfully restored and transformed into a new mixed-use residential community. The redevelopment preserves the character and architecture of the historic campus while creating new apartments and commercial space for the future.
Rather than erase the site’s history, the project seeks to honor it—giving new life to a property that has long been part of the fabric of the neighborhood.
